The plant featured in this piece known as 'Ulei is important ecologically, culturally, as well as aesthetically in Hawaii. 'Ulei white round fruits with hard seeds may have white or purple flesh. These fruits were traditionally used as medicine for babies, and the wood of the long slender branches was bent into hoops to use for fish nets.
