The endangered Maui Parrotbill uses its tough little beak to pull grubs from the branches of the Mamane tree. The males are slightly brighter in color than the females. Populations are now restricted to the Hanawi Natural Area Reserve. However habitat restoration and talk of reintroduction is underway in Kahikinui.
