The Hawaiian Hawk ‘Io (Buteo solitarius), a symbol of royalty in Hawaiian legend, is the last remaining hawk to soar over the Hawaiian forests. Listed as endangered, the ‘Io has continued to thrive on the island of Hawaii and each year a few individuals are spotted soaring above the forests of Haleakala. The ‘Io is the spirit guardian of someone very close to me, and so it was naturally very significant.
