Naupaka is the Hawaiian name for one native and eight endemic species of plants which thrive in very distinct ecosystems across widely ranging parts of the Hawaiian Islands. All of these species share the delicate “half flower” which is symbolic of two lovers who are forever separated. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with this flower and the legend that goes with it!
