'Ohi'a Lehua was given the Latin name Metrosideros polymorpha, when translated means many forms of the Metrosideros. 'Ohi'a can establish and thrive in young costal lava flows up to the high mountain tops, and from dry forests to wet forests. Its diversity of forms allows certain individuals to flourish in distinct systems were others will not.
